How do I connect my Rho account to Inkle Books?

Go to Data Sources in Inkle Books, click Connect, and pick Rho under Bank & Credit Cards. You sign in to Rho once, choose which accounts to import, and your balances and transactions start flowing into Books automatically. Rho used to connect through Plaid. It is now a direct API connection, so your Rho data comes to us from Rho rather than through an aggregator.

Who this is for

US companies that bank with Rho and use Inkle Books for bookkeeping. Also for anyone whose Rho account is currently connected through Plaid, or sitting on Data Sources as a manually added card.

Where to find it: Inkle Books → Data Sources → Connect → Bank & Credit Cards → Rho

What the direct Rho integration is

Inkle talks to Rho's API directly, with read-only access. We can pull account balances and transaction data. We cannot move money, initiate payments, or change anything inside your Rho account.

Five providers currently have a direct integration on the Bank & Credit Cards tab: Rho, Silicon Valley Bank, Mercury, Brex, and Ramp. Banks outside that list still connect through Plaid, so Plaid has not gone away. It is no longer the route for Rho.

Terms you will see on the Data Sources page:

Data source is any account feeding financial data into Books. Bank and credit card accounts, and also revenue, payroll, and AP/AR tools, each on its own tab in the Connect window.

Manually added is the tag on a source whose balances and transactions were entered or uploaded by hand rather than synced. These cards still show a balance, but the number only moves when someone updates it.

Connect directly is the button on a manually added card for one of the five direct-integration providers. Connect via Plaid is the button you get instead when the bank has no direct integration.

Connecting for is the entity selector at the top of the Connect window. It follows the entity picked in the sidebar. If your group has more than one entity in Inkle, this decides which set of books the Rho account lands in.

Total balance is the combined balance of every account on the page for the selected entity, shown above the cards.

Before you start

You need your Rho login, either the email and password or the Google account you use with Rho. You also need to know which Inkle entity the account belongs to, because you confirm that before the connection starts.

Connecting Rho

  1. Open Inkle Books and go to Data Sources in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Connect at the top right of the page.
  3. Check the entity in the Connecting for dropdown. Change it if the Rho account belongs to a different entity.
  4. Stay on the Bank & Credit Cards tab, find Rho, and click Connect.
  5. The Connect Rho window opens on step 1, Connect bank. Click Connect bank.
  6. You are redirected to Rho's sign-in page. Sign in with your email and password, or with Google.
  7. Authorize the connection and return to Inkle. The window moves to step 2, Select accounts.
  8. Select the Rho accounts you want in Books and confirm.

If Rho is already on your Data Sources page as a manually added card, you can skip steps 2 to 4 and click Connect directly on that card instead. The rest of the flow is the same.

Once you finish, the Rho card shows a live balance and counts toward the total at the top of the page.

What happens to the data after it lands

The connection gives Books a bank feed: a running list of what actually moved through the account, with dates, amounts, and descriptions. A feed is not bookkeeping on its own. Each transaction still needs a category before it becomes part of your ledger, which is what the Transactions page and auto-categorization are for.

This is also why two numbers can differ. The balance on the Rho card is the bank balance, what Rho says is in the account right now. Your book balance comes from categorized transactions in the ledger, and the two only agree once everything in the feed has been categorized and reconciled. A gap usually means uncategorized or pending transactions, not a broken connection.

If something goes wrong

If sign-in loops back to the Rho login page, the redirect did not complete. Close the window, return to Data Sources, and start again from Connect.

If the Rho card does not appear after you finish, check the entity selector. The account connects to whichever entity was selected in Connecting for, so it may be sitting under a different set of books.

If some Rho accounts are missing, reopen the flow and check step 2. Only the accounts you selected are imported.

If you see the same transaction twice, you probably have both a Plaid connection and the direct connection live for the same account. Disconnect one.

For anything else, use Get help in the sidebar or the chat bubble in the app.

FAQ

Can Inkle move money out of my Rho account?

No. The connection is read-only. We can read balances and transactions and nothing else.

Do I need to keep the Plaid connection after connecting directly?

No, and keeping both is what causes duplicate transactions.

Does this import my past transactions or only new ones?

When connecting the bank for the first time, it will pull both historical and new transactions. When migrating from Plaid to Direct, the behavior is completely based on the user’s selection. Currently, there are four available options.

How often does it sync?

The account automatically syncs every morning and pulls the latest transactions. If you want to refresh it manually, there is also an option to trigger a manual sync.

Can I disconnect Rho later?

Yes, you can disconnect or delete the account at any time. If you disconnect the account, the existing account and transactions will remain in the system, but we will no longer pull new transactions from the bank going forward.

Can I connect more than one Rho account?

Yes. Run the flow once per entity, and select all the relevant accounts at step 2.
