Do I need a new EIN if I change my business name or move?

EIN & business identity

No. A name change or an address change does not require a new EIN. You update the IRS instead, using Form 8822-B for an address or responsible party change.

A new EIN is needed when the entity itself changes, such as incorporating a sole proprietorship or converting an LLC to a corporation.

We handle this for founders running US companies.

Check your EIN confirmation letter (CP 575) first. If that is gone, look at a previously filed tax return, a business bank account application, or any 1099 you have issued. Your bank or your payroll provider will also have it on file.
