Overview:

Ramp is a US spend management platform built around corporate cards, expense controls, and bill pay. Deposits in a Ramp business account are held with Ramp's partner banks. Startups use it to issue cards across the team, set limits by person or vendor, and keep spend categorised as it happens rather than at month-end.

If your startup runs on Ramp, that card feed carries most of your operating expenses: cloud infrastructure, ad spend, contractor tools, travel, and every SaaS subscription someone signed up for last quarter. It also carries context your books need, like which team member spent it and which department it belongs to.

Inkle's direct API integration with Ramp brings that spend into your Inkle dashboard automatically, with the categorisation and department detail intact. No exports, no reformatting, no reconstructing who bought what.

Features

Automatic transaction sync

Card spend flows into Inkle Books as it clears, so your expense ledger is never a month behind your team.

Department context preserved

Each transaction arrives with the cardholder, department, and location Ramp recorded, which maps directly to classes in your books.

Every card, one feed

Spend across every card you have issued syncs together, so team spend pools into one ledger instead of several.

Multi-currency handled properly

Non-USD spend comes through with the original amount and the conversion rate, so your books reflect what was actually charged.

Faster monthly reconciliation

Categorised transactions with merchant and memo detail mean closing the month becomes a review rather than a rebuild.

Secure, read-only access

Inkle reads your transaction data and nothing else, and cannot issue cards, change spend limits, or move your money.

How do you connect

Ramp

to Inkle?

01

Open Data Sources.

From the left navigation in Inkle Books, click Data Sources under Home. This screen shows every financial connection your company has.

02

Click Connect.

The button is in the top right and opens the Connect Data Sources hub.

03

Select Ramp

under Bank & Credit Cards, alongside SVB, Mercury, Brex, and the 10,000+ banks available through Plaid.

04

Authorise through Ramp.

You approve read access on Ramp's own screen. Your Ramp credentials never reach Inkle.

05

Confirm which accounts to sync.

Your Ramp accounts then appear on the Reconciliations dashboard under Accounting, grouped by source with a Last reconciled till date for each, ready to close with Smart Reconcile (AI) or the guided manual flow.

FAQs

Is it safe to connect Ramp to Inkle?

Yes. You authorise on Ramp's own login screen, so Inkle never receives your credentials, and access is read-only. We can pull transactions into your books but cannot issue cards, adjust limits, or move money. Revoke access from Data Sources whenever you want.

How often does Ramp sync with Inkle?

Transactions flow in automatically once the connection is live. If you have a distributed team spending on Ramp cards, reconciling weekly rather than monthly catches anomalies faster.

Do Ramp's categories carry over into my books?

Ramp's category, department, and location come through with each transaction, which gives Inkle Books a head start on categorisation and maps to your classes. You keep final control: anything sitting uncategorised gets resolved on the closing checklist before the period locks.

Can I use Ramp and another card provider at the same time?

Yes. Data Sources supports multiple connections at once, and the Reconciliations dashboard groups accounts by source, so Ramp cards, a Brex account, and your operating bank all sit side by side. Reconcile the operating account first, then cards, then payment processors.

What about spend in other currencies?

Non-USD charges arrive with the original amount, currency code, and conversion rate, so your books show both what was charged and what it cost in dollars.
