Overview:
Brex is a US spend platform built for startups, combining corporate cards, expense management, and business accounts in one place. Deposits are held with Brex's partner banks. Startups use it to issue cards across the team, set spend limits per person or vendor, and keep receipts in one system instead of a shared inbox.
If your startup runs on Brex, your card feed is where most of your operating expenses show up first: cloud bills, ad spend, travel, software subscriptions, and everything the team buys day to day. That volume is exactly what makes month-end painful when it's handled by export.
Inkle's direct API integration with Brex syncs those transactions into your Inkle dashboard automatically, along with the receipt and memo data your team already captured in Brex. Your books stay current without anyone downloading a statement.
Features
Card spend flows into Inkle Books as it clears, so your expense ledger is never a month behind your team.
Every charge arrives with the merchant, cardholder, and memo your team already captured in Brex, ready for your books.
Spend across all your issued cards syncs together and maps to the right expense accounts without any manual sorting.
Categorised transactions with full merchant detail mean closing the month becomes a review rather than a reconstruction of events.
Brex points you have already earned can be applied against your Inkle invoice at checkout, offsetting your accounting costs.
Inkle reads your transaction data and nothing else, and cannot issue cards, change spend limits, or move your money.
How do you connect
Brex
to Inkle?
Open Data Sources.
From the left navigation in Inkle Books, click Data Sources under Home. This screen shows every financial connection your company has, grouped by type.
Click Connect.
The button sits in the top right and opens the Connect Data Sources hub.
Select Brex
under Bank & Credit Cards, alongside SVB, Mercury, Ramp, and the 10,000+ banks available through Plaid.
Authorise through Brex.
You sign in on Brex's own screen, not Inkle's, and approve read access. Your Brex credentials are never shared with us.
Confirm which accounts to sync.
Pick the cards and accounts you want flowing into your books.
Once connected, your Brex accounts appear on the Reconciliations dashboard under Accounting, grouped by source, with a Last reconciled till date for each one. From there you can close each period with Smart Reconcile (AI) or the guided manual flow.

FAQs
Yes. Authorisation happens on Brex's own login screen, so Inkle never receives your credentials. The connection is read-only: we can pull transaction data into your books, but we cannot issue cards, adjust spend limits, or move money. You can revoke access from Data Sources whenever you want.
Transactions stream in automatically once the connection is live, so your expense ledger stays current between closes rather than catching up at month-end. If you run a distributed team spending on Brex cards, reconciling weekly rather than monthly tends to surface anomalies faster.
Brex sits under Bank & Credit Cards in the Connect hub, and Inkle Books supports credit card, checking, and savings account types on the Reconciliations dashboard. At the connection step you choose which of your Brex accounts to bring in.
No, and this trips people up. They are two separate connections that do different jobs. The Data Sources connection pulls your transactions into your books. The rewards link sits in Billing and lets you apply Brex points against your Inkle invoice at checkout. You can have one without the other.
Points do not appear as transactions. They appear at checkout under Credits and Points when you pay an Inkle invoice, showing your available balance and its dollar value (for example, 1,300 Brex Points worth $13.00). Tick the box to apply them and the order summary updates with what is left to pay. Your invoice records exactly what was covered by points and what was paid in cash, so your books reflect both. The point-to-dollar conversion is set by Brex, so the value shown at checkout is what those points are worth at that moment.
