How do I recover a lost EIN?

Funding, runway & startup metrics

Your EIN is on any return you have already filed, your bank account paperwork, and any 1099 or W-2 your company has issued. Payroll providers keep it too.

If nothing turns up, the IRS Business and Specialty Tax Line will read it back to an authorized person on the account. We list every place the number appears, in the order worth checking.

We handle this for founders running US companies.

Check your EIN confirmation letter (CP 575) first. If that is gone, look at a previously filed tax return, a business bank account application, or any 1099 you have issued. Your bank or your payroll provider will also have it on file.
